Emergency crews were on the scene of a small plane crash Wednesday night near Republic High School in Republic, Missouri, fire officials told NBC News.

Two people aboard the plane were transported to a hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, Republic Fire Capt. Joe Frahm said.

Authorities said the crash happened between 10:30 p.m. and 11:30 p.m. ET

Witnesses told NBC station KYTV of Springfield that the plane was flying low and sounded as if it was having engine trouble. KYTV broadcast video showing the plane against a fence near the school's football practice field.
