Super Bowl 53 declared boring by Twitter users

“If the game weren’t in my stadium, I would have driven away by now,” said a tweet from the Mercedes-Benz USA Twitter account.

Twitter users christened Super Bowl 53 between the New England Patriots and Los Angeles Rams on Sunday as the most boring. And with the first touchdown scored midway through the fourth quarter, one could see why.

Mercedes-Benz, which owns the naming rights to the stadium in Atlanta, where the game was held, tweeted, “If the game weren’t in my stadium, I would have driven away by now,” with a short video of one of its cars in front of a television.

The tweet was later deleted from the Mercedes-Benz USA official Twitter account.

Even LeBron James got in on it. He addressed NBA writers in a tweet in hopes they could "spice up" the game.

And Andy Cohen was falling asleep.

And no, it had nothing to do with a malfunctioning scoreboard because that would have at least been exciting.

The Las Vegas Lights Football Club, a professional soccer team, joked that the first half of its Spring training game on Saturday was more entertaining than the first half of the Super Bowl.

Speaking of soccer, this guy did have a good point concerning what's known as football in other parts of the world.

Some on Twitter joked that the NFL conspired to make the game boring so that the halftime show, headlined by Maroon 5, would be more enjoyable.

And the "biggest concert of the year" definitely disappointed many. More than a million people had signed a petition for the song “Sweet Victory,” made popular in a "SpongeBob SquarePants" episode in which the characters performed at "The Bubble Bowl" to be performed Sunday. Fans got SpongeBob, but did not feel victorious.

And others who watched the halftime show pointed out a pretty glaring double-standard, circa 2004.

But what about the ads? Those must have caused a stir. Well, they got most people drinking whatever beer they had been drinking anyway no matter how many times Bud Light reiterated that other light beers have high-fructose corn syrup.

Miller didn't stay quiet for long though.

At the end of the day, Miller fans will stay loyal and Coors fans will stay loyal, but football fans? That remains to be seen. Baseball season comes with beer, too.
