Three Children Injured by Cannon at Utah Civil War Reenactment

An accidental explosion set off by a relic cannon sent three children to the hospital.

Three children in Utah were rushed to the hospital with injuries sparked by an explosion at a Civil War reenactment this weekend.

The "mishap" occurred with charges ignited by a relic cannon during a Civil War reenactment at the City of Orem’s annual Summerfest on Saturday, Orem Police Lt. Josh Adams told NBC News.

Police said that a spark from the cannon set off a large pouch containing additional charges. The pouch's explosion injured three children, who were performing in the reenactment.

Adams, who arrived on the scene about 10 minutes after the accident, said paramedic teams were already on standby at the event.

The children were treated on scene and were taken to a local hospital in stable condition.
