Hannah Graham, the 18-year-old University of Virginia student whose body was found in October after she'd been missing for more than a month, was the victim of "homicidal violence," authorities said Tuesday.

Albermarle County, Virginia, police gave no other information about the medical examiner's findings, including a specific cause of death, pending a final autopsy.

It wasn't yet known whether Jesse Leroy Matthew, who's charged with abduction with the intent to defile in connection with the case, would face additional charges. Matthew, 32, pleaded not guilty last week in connection with an unrelated attempted murder case in Fairfax County, Virginia, and authorities have said he may have to stand trial in that case before he could be tried in Graham's disappearance.

Graham's remains were found Oct. 18 near Charlottesville, where the university is based, less than 10 miles from where she'd last been seen alive on the morning of Sept. 13 after a night out with friends. Before she vanished, she texted a friend at 1 a.m. that she was lost.
