A farmer’s wife has been charged with killing her husband and burying him in a mound of manure, New York State Police said.

Police said authorities began searching for 52-year-old Douglas W. Mess on Monday after his son reported that his dad had missed work and not been seen since the night before. Mess’s body was found "concealed within a mound of manure" at the rear of his farm in Attica, New York, according to state police.

State police said Mess's wife of 30 years — Charlene — has been charged with second degree murder. Charlene Mess, 48, is being held without bail, police added.
