Torrential rain early Thursday caused flash floods deep enough to strand an 18-wheeler in Texas and forced authorities to close part of Interstate 35, the main highway connecting Oklahoma with Dallas. The city of Valley View, Texas, recorded 10 inches of rain overnight, The Weather Channel reported. And in Edmond, Oklahoma, a semi jackknifed on a slick stretch of I-35, NBC affiliate KFOR reported.

Steady rain fell across north Texas and east Oklahoma, and forecasters said hail was possible. Crews in Fort Worth, Texas, were preparing sandbags. It was the first of two rounds of storms, with the second expected to strike late Thursday and into Friday.
