In a Mother’s Day piece for the Desert Sun, MSNBC anchor, Alex Witt discussed the impact her mother’s involvement with the “Birthday Club” has had on her. In March, Alex, her mother Colette and dozens of other ladies celebrated 50 years of the club that started in Los Angeles by 14 wives of doctors who would get together each month to celebrate birthdays. This was the first time that the ladies included their daughters, daughter-in-laws and granddaughters in the celebration.
For Alex, the sisterhood that her mother was part of influenced her view on friendships. She said, “I watched them and I'd like to say they influenced me in the way I conduct myself in my friendships…It was like I was taught a lesson of friendship, loyalty, commitment.”
