An Australian teenage surfer who survived a shark attack said she at first thought one of her friends was grabbing her foot in the waters off a beach north of Sydney.

"I was like, 'Wow, what the hell? I just got bitten by a shark," 13-year-old Kirra-Belle Olsson said from her hospital bed. The three-foot-long animal grabbed her foot three times at Avoca Beach, pulling her under and leaving her with deep lacerations.
