The captured suspect in the 2012 attack on the American diplomatic compound in Benghazi, Libya, is en route to the United States aboard the USS New York and could arrive by the end of the week, NBC News has learned.

It is not clear whether the suspect, Ahmed Abu Khattala, is being interrogated by intelligence officials or whether he has been read his Miranda rights and is being questioned by the FBI and Justice Department officials. His destination is not known, but he is expected to be arraigned in a U.S. criminal court.
