The highest-ranking U.S. diplomat to travel to Cuba in nearly 40 years boarded a commercial flight on Wednesday morning from Miami — ahead of landmark negotiations to re-establish diplomatic ties between the two countries. NBC News has team coverage from Havana, and Brian Williams will anchor the "NBC Nightly News" there on Wednesday.

Williams, Andrea Mitchell and Gabe Guiterrez are reporting on these landmark talks. Williams last anchored from Havana in September 2006, when world leaders gathered in Cuba for the Non-Aligned Movement summit.
