LONDON — Five members of the same family were arrested on suspicion of terrorism-related offenses in London on Wednesday, police said.

London's Metropolitan Police said in a statement that the family members were detained on suspicion of "possessing information likely to be useful to a person committing or preparing an act of terrorism."

The five — a 51-year-old male and the others were women aged 53, 19, 17 and 16 — were arrested in east London, police said.

The 16-year-old had already been arrested on July 2 on suspicion of "preparation of terrorism" and was on bail pending further inquiries at the time of Wednesday's arrest, the statement added.

Police said the 51-year-old man was also arrested on suspicion of possessing false identity documents "with improper intention."

All five were in custody Wednesday at a London police station.
