LONDON — All trains between the U.K. and the European continent were suspended on Saturday and returning to their originating stations after smoke was detected in a tunnel, according to Eurostar, the company that runs the high-speed rail service.
Police said a fire in a truck that was being transported through the Channel Tunnel triggered an alarm that led to the suspensions, The Associated Press reported. The tunnel runs under the English Channel between the U.K. and France.
Services were not expected to resume until Sunday, Eurostar added. "If you were planning to travel today, we advise you to postpone your journey and not to come to the station," the company said in a statement. Tickets can be refunded or rebooked within the next 60 days for travel within six months.
