A fire broke out inside Terminal 2 at Mexico City's international airport Monday evening, but it was quickly contained, an airport official told NBC News.

Photos from the scene posted across social media showed a thick plume of black smoke. The official said the blaze started as a grease fire inside a Chili's restaurant.

There were no reports of injuries and the airport's operations were not affected, the official said.
