The world is getting its first look Tuesday at the elaborate mile-long, 300-foot-deep tunnel through which Mexican drug kingpin Joaquin "El Chapo" Guzman escaped the supermax Altiplano prison over the weekend.

The tunnel — an elaborate passageway so skillfully built that it looks like the work of a professional contractor — is actually two levels. The hole at the house at the end of the tunnel leads to a chamber with equipment that includes an impressive generator used to power the construction work.

You have to go down a second ladder to reach the actual tunnel — bolstered with wood and metal beams, fully ventilated and wide enough for Guzman to have vroomed through it on a motorbike.

Monday, Mexican officials toured the home where El Chapo came out the ground, and took reporters into the escape hole for three-minutes at a time.
