Kelly Preston and Charlie Sheen's engagement might have ended with Sheen accidentally shooting Preston in the arm (20 years later, the details of the incident remain murky), but Preston still stands by the troubled actor.
"My heart just goes out to him, and all of his family," Preston told People magazine. "He's such a good person underneath all of it, he really is.
"We were together for a year, and he wasn't drinking, and he wasn't doing drugs," Preston told the magazine. "And there's a beautiful person in there. He really is a great man."
Despite Sheen's very public unraveling, Preston -- now the wife of John Travolta -- believes that her onetime fiance can get his life back together. "I think there's a way back for anyone," Preston said. "I always have hope, and my prayers are with him."
