Updated 3:19 p.m. PT: Who out there had 72 days in the Kim Kardashian/Kris Humphries marriage pool? Raise your hands now, because you might have just won the $17 million question.
Kim K filed for divorce Monday from her husband, and she's citing the cause as "irreconcilable differences," and lists the day of separation as Oct. 31, 2011.
"After careful consideration, I have decided to end my marriage," Kardashian said in a statement obtained by The Scoop. "I hope everyone understands this was not an easy decision. I had hoped this marriage was forever but sometimes things don't work out as planned. We remain friends and wish each other the best."
But Humphries isn't ready to give up. "I love my wife and am devastated to learn she filed for divorce," he said in a statement to E! News. "I'm committed to this marriage and everything this covenant represents. I'm willing to do whatever it takes to make it work."
The trouble-in-paradise rumor mill has been churning overtime on this one, and the couple's decision to spend Halloween apart (how dare a couple not spend this important holiday together!) seemed to be a final nail in the coffin.
TMZ has the divorce documents right here.
Kardashian, 31, is one of the highest-paid reality stars on television with 2010 earnings estimated at $6 million from her TV show, clothing line, perfume, jewelry and tanning cream and other product endorsements and appearances.
Reuters says claims of tension in the marriage spread across entertainment media for the past week, with reports of 26-year-old New Jersey Nets player Humphries' reluctance to play his role in the Kardashian brand and differences over where the newlyweds should make their home.
