Alex is in DC today with an all-star lineup, and among the discussion points: the Violence Against Women Act, an 18-year-old law that Republicans are suddenly opposed to. Democrats want to ensure the LGBT community is extended the protections of the law, which sponsors programs to respond to domestic violence and sexual abuse. The GOP has an alternative plan that would exclude that constituency from the law's reach, as well as limit new immigrant rights. Most political observers agree it's a risky strategy that could perpetuate the so-called "war on women." The showdown will come to a head on the Senate floor today, but not before we see you on NOW at noon ET.
