The United States Senate has unanimously confirmed Anthony Foxx as the next Secretary of Transportation.
Foxx, the mayor of Charlotte, N.C., was approved by 100-0 vote. He replaces outgoing Secretary Ray LaHood, a former Republican House member, and will take the reins at a department deeply affected by the federal government spending cuts known as sequestration.
He faced no significant opposition during his confirmation hearing in May.
Foxx, who is African-American, will be one of two black members of President Barack Obama’s cabinet.
