Suicide Attacker Kills 14 at Famous Restaurant in Iraq

A suicide bomber killed at least 14 people at a famous restaurant, Iraqi officials said.

The attacker blew himself up Monday inside an eatery in Dhi Qar province that is frequented by Shiite paramilitary militia fighters, according to a police officer.

He added that at least 27 others were wounded. The popular restaurant is located on the main highway that links Baghdad with the southern provinces.

A medical official confirmed the causality figures. All of the officials spoke on condition of anonymity as they were not authorized to release information.

Elsewhere, police said six troops were killed when when a suicide bomber rammed his explosives-laden car into a security checkpoint in Baghdad's northeastern suburb of Sadr al-Qanat.
