Toronto Mayor Rob Ford returned to office Monday and declared his two-month stay in rehab to kick booze and drugs a success, but said he will battle addiction for the rest of his life. "My commitment to living clean is now unwavering," the politician said at a City Hall press conference. He took no questions but apologized to his constituents for behavior that left him "ashamed, embarrassed and humiliated."

Ford said that before he underwent "hundreds of hours of therapy," he was "blind to the dangers of some of the company I kept," adding that he had cut those ties. After emotional comments about "personal demons" and "uncontrollable cravings," Ford slipped quickly into what sounded like a stump speech for his re-election, touting his alleged achievements in office. "I look forward to serving you for many more years," he said, leaving the podium as reporters shouted questions.
