A stash of Viking gold and silver artifacts dating back more than 1,000 years has been discovered by a persistent treasure hunter in Scotland. The collection of artifacts is being hailed as one of the country's most significant discoveries of its kind, according to reports.
Derek McLennan, a retired businessman, made the discovery using a metal detector while searching land in the southern Scottish region of Dumfries and Galloway. The objects found include a solid silver cross thought to date from the 9th or 10th century, a silver pot of west European origin, likely 100 years old when it was buried, Reuters reported.
"We still don't know exactly what is in the pot, but I hope it could reveal who these artefacts belonged to, or at least where they came from," McLennan told ITV News.
