BEIJING, China - State media aired previously unseen video Monday that purportedly showed the masterminds behind a deadly Oct. 28 attack in Beijing, days after provincial officials executed eight people convicted of terrorism charges. The video was reportedly obtained from the computers and cell phones of those behind the vehicle attack, in front of Beijing’s iconic Tiananmen Square, that killed five and injured 40. The executions, carried out over recent days, included three Muslim Uighurs that authorities say were masterminds of the incident and others convicted of playing roles in attacks in the restive Western region of Xinjiang.

Chinese media said the video shows a jihadist swearing-in ceremony and the burning of the flags of China, Pakistan and United States. In addition, Chinese state broadcaster CCTV also aired new surveillance video of the Tiananmen Square attack that showed the SUV plowing through tourists before exploding in flames. The incident sparked an outcry across mainland China and focused greater attention on Xinjiang's Turkic-speaking Uighurs who represent 47 percent of the population in the region.
