There is no question that Ann Romney, the spouse of the Repubilcan presumptive nominee Mitt Romney, is a wonderful asset to his campaign. Today, however, she went on morning television and reinforced some of the more unfortunate stereotypes about Mitt Romney and his wealth. Speaking about her husband's refusal to release more than one (incomplete) year of tax returns, Ann Romney used a phrase that's going to be off-putting to anyone who already believes the Romney's are out of touch with 99% of the country:
"we've given all you people need to know".
We're not sure what the "you people" phrase is referring to. Does she mean the news media? Is she referring to Democrats? Is she talking about the people who are less well off? Not a helpful phrase.
Ann Romney also acknowledged, as has her husband repeatedly, that there are "so many things" in Romney's tax returns that would be open to scrutiny.
"there are so many things that will be open again for more attack, and you just want to get more material for more attack" "we've given all you people need to know".
It's a must see interview.
