Whitney Houston in outpatient rehab

Whitney Houston is participating in an outpatient rehab program, her rep Kristen Foster confirmed to Scoop.

"I can confirm that Whitney Houston is currently in an out-patient rehab program for drug and alcohol treatment.  Whitney voluntarily entered the program to support her long-standing recovery process," Foster wrote via e-mail.

An earlier report posted to TMZ suggested that Houston was in rehab so that she'd be in good shape for a film she was attached to.

While Foster had no comment about the film, it's possible the movie that was being referred to is "Getting Happy," the sequel to 1995's "Waiting to Exhale." Angela Bassett, who was part of the "Exhale" cast, revealed on "The Talk" that everyone from the original cast -- Lela Rochon, Loretta Devine and Houston, would be on board for the Forest Whitaker-directed film. "Forest is working on the script now," Basset said.
