Chronic Fatigue Syndrome Gets a New Name

The Institute of Medicine has released new diagnostic criteria for chronic fatigue syndrome.

An Editor’s note about our 2/10/15 report on the new name and diagnostic criteria for CFS/ME, previously labeled Chronic Fatigue Syndrome.

The Institute of Medicine says some forms of exercise, while beneficial for some patients, are not recommended for a significant number of patients suffering from this condition, and in some cases can exacerbate symptoms. As we reported, the new criteria for diagnosis is expected to improve research into the most effective treatments for the as many as 2.5 million who suffer this disease.
