According to Lookout, a mobile security firm, one in 10 Americans have been victim of smartphone theft. Of those victims, 68 percent would be willing to put themselves in danger to retrieve their phones. Why? Most said it was because of the data on those phones -- the photos, contact numbers, email addresses -- that make them so valuable. One-third of victims said they were likely to pay up to $1,000 to get their phone's content back.
