Months after Hurricane Ian hit Florida, insurance companies are being accused of shortchanging homeowners with severely damaged properties. Independent adjusters tell NBC News that after they’ve gone out, assessed damage and filed a report, their work is being changed in order to pay policyholders less. Now, Florida’s Department of Financial Services is investigating possible fraud. Lester Holt speaks to residents about their struggles.May 22, 2023
