Forever 21 files for bankruptcy protection, closing nearly 200 stores

The company, founded in Los Angeles in 1984, plans to shutter up to 178 stores across the U.S. according to court records. The filing will give Forever 21 time to “reorganize the business so we can return to profitability,” the company said in a statement to customers.
