New study shows patients with stable chest pain may not need stents or surgery


For years, doctors have inserted a heart stent to treat patients who suffer from chest pain during exercise, but a new study involving more than 5,000 patients across 37 countries has found the procedure may not always be necessary. Medications like statins, aspirin, and lifestyle changes are almost as effective as a stent or bypass surgery.
