Britain’s Telegraph detailed hundreds of word changes across Dahl’s works were made by his publisher, Puffin, and the Roald Dahl story company since 2020. Words related to weight, gender, race, and more were omitted or added, such as changing the “enormously fat” nine-year-old boy in “Charlie And The Chocolate Factory” to just “enormous” and the “Cloud-Men” from “James And The Giant Peach” to “Cloud-People.” The degree of changes prompted an eruption of backlash, including from legendary writer Salman Rushdie.Feb. 19, 2023
