Solar City: Building a Town Around a School (Part 3)

Syd Kitson’s vision was to build a new town, not a neighborhood. And in order to do that he decided to begin with a school in order to attract young working families to the development. What followed was a K-8 charter school rooted in project-based learning. After building the school, home sales soared while Syd Kitson added a town center, golf course and began construction for an on-site grocery store. And the school’s success influenced plans to build a high school over the next four years.
