John Kasich on Monday responded to Donald Trump’s assertion that the Ohio governor is taking votes from him in a futile effort to win the Republican presidential nomination.

“Donald Trump said I need to get out of the race because I’m getting his voters...I’ve got news for him, I’m going to get a heck of a lot of his voters, OK. That’s what’s going to happen,” Kasich said while campaigning in New York.

Trump on Sunday called for Kasich to end his 2016 run, telling reporters “he goes from place to place, and loses, and he keeps on running.”

Kasich has only won the primary in his home state of Ohio.

“He doesn’t have to run and take my votes,” Trump added.
