Wisconsin Gov. Scott Walker says he expects to make an announcement about his presidential plans during the week of July 13, he told FOX News Thursday evening.

"The week of the 13th is when we will be likely to make our announcement as to what our intentions are," he told interviewer Greta Van Susteren.

Walker is considered a formidable candidate for the GOP nomination. He has earned praise in conservative circles for his high-profile fights with unions in Wisconsin, and he can boast of winning three elections in just four years in the midwestern state.

In the latest NBC News/ Wall Street Journal poll, Walker was the first choice of 14 percent of GOP primary voters, trailing only Jeb Bush and Marco Rubio.

But he would enter a crowded primary field. Fellow GOP Gov. Bobby Jindal on Wednesday became the thirteenth announced candidate in the Republican primary race; another governor, New Jersey's Chris Christie, is expected to announce his run next week.
