Staffer Arrested for Carrying Pistol into Capitol Hill Building

A staffer for Rep Tom Marino (R-PA) was arrested this morning for allegedly carrying a pistol into the Cannon House Office Building.

A staffer for Rep Tom Marino (R-PA) was arrested this morning for allegedly carrying a pistol into the Cannon House Office Building, Capitol Police tell NBC News.

Ryan Shucard, who has been a press secretary for Marino since May 2014, was arrested and charged with a felony count of Carrying a Pistol Without a License when he entered the south east door of the Cannon building at around 9:15am and it was discovered he was carrying a Smith and Wesson 9mm handgun and magazine. Capitol Police say Shucard is currently being processed at their headquarters.

Shucard has been placed on unpaid leave, according to Marino's chief of staff, Bill Tighe.

At about 9:15am today, the USCP arrested Ryan Shucard. He is charged with Carrrying a Pistol Without a License (Felony). Shucard entered the SE Door of the Cannon House Office Building. A S&W 9mm handgun & magazine were discovered during an administrative search required for entry into the building. Shucard is currently being processed at USCP HQ, 119 D Street, NE.
