New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie says Americans should “beware” of those who have already made an early decision to run for president.
“The fact is you should beware of people, in my opinion, who are overanxious to make that decision before they need to,” he said during an interview with CNBC’s John Harwood. “That would, it seems, indicate to me ambition before wisdom. And I don’t think that’s what you want from the person sitting in the Oval Office.”
Christie spoke to CNBC before a swing to the crucial caucus state of Iowa. The New Jersey governor’s presidential ambitions have been rattled by ongoing probes into his administration, including the lane-closure scandal involving the George Washington Bridge.
He said that he would consider what’s best for himself, for his family, for his home state and for the country before making a final decision on a run.
“I will make a decision that’s based on all four of those factors, but not a moment before I have to,” he said.
