She still hasn’t announced a run for the White House yet, but Hillary Clinton is getting a big financial boost nearly two years before the presidential nominating contests begin.
Priorities USA Action, the largest Democratic super PAC and a major player in President Barack Obama’s 2012 election, is formally placing its financial firepower behind the onetime secretary of state, NBC News confirms.
And the organization is already raising money to elect Clinton.
The transition from an Obama to a Clinton moneymaker is no surprise to observers who noted its growing ties to big-name Clinton allies. But the organization’s ability to court the nation’s wealthiest Democratic donors will be a huge boon to the woman already viewed as the party’s next likely standard-bearer.
Among the players: former Obama campaign manager Jim Messina and former Michigan Gov. Jennifer Granholm will serve as co-chairs of the group dedicated to backing a potential Clinton run.
The news of the formal transition was first reported by the New York Times.
