NBC News projects that Democrat Tom Wolf will win the Pennsylvania governor's race, defeating incumbent Republican Tom Corbett.

Corbett battled dismal approval ratings during his tenure as the state's chief executive. Polls had showed him trailing Wolf, a businessman and former state Secretary of Revenue.

The defeat comes on an Election Night when almost a dozen incumbent governors from both parties found themselves fighting to keep their jobs.

Corbett is the first governor to lose re-election after one term since 1970, when Pennsylvania began allowing governors to seek two consecutive terms.
