An animated House Speaker John Boehner called discussion of impeachment proceedings against the president ‘a scam’ started by Democrats hoping to rally their base and raise money before the midterm elections.
“We have no plan to impeach the president,” Boehner said flatly at a Tuesday press conference.
A handful of GOP lawmakers and pundits have suggested that impeachment proceedings should be on the table, particularly if the president takes sweeping executive action on immigration.
But Boehner has firmly denied that, focusing instead on a pending lawsuit against Obama to address his use of executive power.
“Listen, it’s all a scam started by Democrats at the White House,” Boehner said of impeachment chatter.
