Pelosi: Boehner Should Force Michael Grimm Resignation

"Speaker Boehner must insist that Congressman Grimm resign immediately," she said in a statement.

Top House Democrat Nancy Pelosi is calling for the resignation of Republican Rep. Michael Grimm as he prepares to plead guilty to felony tax evasion.

"Now that the election is over, Congressman Grimm is finally admitting the truth to his constituents," the House Minority Leader said in a statement Tuesday. "Clearly, Speaker Boehner must insist that Congressman Grimm resign immediately."

News broke Monday that Grimm plans to plead guilty to a single count of tax fraud. He is facing a 20-count indictment for allegedly failing to accurately report payroll and earnings of a restaurant he owned before being elected to Congress.

House Speaker John Boehner has not yet indicated how he will respond to the plea.

Despite the pending charges, Grimm was comfortably re-elected in November.
