Ariana Grande has apologized after a video emerged featuring the pop starlet saying she hates America.
Gossip website TMZ posted footage this week showing Grande and her new boyfriend licking a tray of donuts in a California shop. Grande is also heard swearing and saying "I hate Americans, I hate America" when a store employee brings out a tray of doughnuts.
Grande, 22, offered an apology and explanation in a statement posted on Twitter on Thursday.
"I am EXTREMELY proud to be an American," she said. "What I said in a private moment... was taken out of context and I'm sorry for not using more discretion with my choice of words."
She said her remarks arose out of frustration with unhealthy eating and U.S. obesity rates.
