From first ladies to A-list celebrities, designer Oscar de la Renta’s creations have been at the forefront of fashion for half a century.

From first ladies to A-list celebrities, designer Oscar de la Renta’s creations have been at the forefront of fashion for half a century. Born in the Dominican Republic, de la Renta began his career working for Cristobal Balenciaga, a Spanish couturier, before breaking off on his own in 1967 and launching his own line. De la Renta went on to dress every first lady since Jacqueline Kennedy, an abundance of celebrities and most recently, Alma Alamuddin, George Clooney’s wife.

In the wake of de la Renta’s death on Monday, here is a look at some of his most iconic designs.
