Bolt in the blue

Wild land, wildfire
Fire spreads across the Taim Ecological Station in Rio Grande do Sul state, Brazil, on March 27. The fire, which had started the day before, had reached approximately 1,400 acres and the risk of spreading was severe since there is no way to reach the place by water or land.
Rescuer in need of rescue
A Bowling Green, Ky., firefighter careens through the rapids of the Barren River on April 1 after trying to help rescue two teenage fishermen who were stranded in the rapids after their boat overturned. The fishermen were rescued after two hours, and the firefighter was transported to the Medical Center at Bowling Greeen with unknown injuries.

Locusts hop in the Menabe region of western Madagascar on March 29. The Food and Agriculture Organization reports that half the island nation has been infested by locusts, which threaten the production of rice, the country's main staple.

A man rides a paddleboard in the streets of Buenos Aires, Argentina, on April 2. A violent storm with torrential rain and powerful wind left five people dead in the city as it knocked out power, downed trees and damaged homes, officials said.
