A swan is examined during Swan Upping, the annual census of the swan population on the River Thames, at Sunbury, Southern England. The week-long exercise ensures unmarked, mute swans are counted, rather than eaten, in a tradition exercised by the British Crown for nearly 900 years.




Italian atheletes embrace in Florence during the first World Trisome Games, dedicated exclusively to athletes with Down syndrome. The World Trisome Games run for the first time in Florence from July 15 to 22, featuring athletes from 35 nations who compete in events such as swimming, synchronized swimming, athletics, tennis, table tennis, judo and gymnastic sports.
