Tattoo you: Celebrity ink

Movie stars, rockers and reality wannabes are among those who've made a permanent mark.

Actress Megan Fox, in 2010 at the Teen Choice Awards in Universal City, Calif., has a tattoo of screen icon Marilyn Monroe on her forearm. In 2009, she said, "I really admire Marilyn Monroe, but I would never try to emulate her. I got the tattoo as a warning. It warns me not to let myself be treated so badly by the film industry so that it breaks me down."

The rocker courted controversy in 1998 when a swastika tattoo was revealed on his forearm during a court case in which he was accused of assaulting a Jewish photographer outside an L.A. club. The tattoo was removed.

But no tat is as talked about, especially in the spring of 2011, as the Maori symbol around his left eye. When Tyson showed up in "The Hangover," and his tattoo showed up in "The Hangover II" (on the face of Ed Helms), legal trouble ensued as the man who did Tyson's ink sued Warner Bros. for a copyright violation and tried to block the film's release.

Actress Jaime King does reportedly regret some of her tattoos, since they have to be covered up with makeup when she makes movies, but that hasn't stopped her from adding them on. Currently, her tats include her surname, a star and a fairy (on her back) and a diamond and a spade on her wrists. In 2009 she discussed getting a a quote from Emily Dickinson on her body, which would read, "If I can stop one heart from breaking. I shall not live in vain; If I can ease one life the aching; or cool one pain, or help one fainting robin unto his nest again, I shall not live in vain."

Maroon 5 singer (and "The Voice" coach) Adam Levine sports several tattoos, including triple 2's on his forearm (the first studio his band recorded in), the name of his hometown (Los Angeles) on his shoulder, a guitar on his forearm and a tiger on the other as well as a dove and cherry blossoms done in memory of 9/11.

Rapper Lil Wayne is almost fully covered in tattoos, many of which have autobiographical meanings, including fissures near his scalp, the words "a gun" on his palm, a Fleur-de-lis to represent his New Orleans origins and the words "I Am Music" on his face; he also has an extensive prayer across the right side of his back, vein tattoos on one side of his chest and the words "Fear God" on his eyelids.

Seeing singer Courtney Love's tattoos isn't all that hard: She tends to tweet pictures of them as she gets them done. Among the body art she sports are the words "Let it Bleed" on her inner upper right arm (after the Rolling Stones album), an angel on her right shoulder and multiple small flowers across her arms and chest.

She's been quoted as saying that actor Edward Norton, with whom she had a relationship, didn't like the "K" tattoo she sports in honor of her late husband, Kurt Cobain -- but that she refused to remove it when he objected.

Good Charlotte guitarist Benji Madden (right, with twin Joel, also in the band) can be very patriotic with his tattoos: He's got one of Ben Franklin across his entire back. She's not inked very heavily, but "Live with Regis and Kelly" co-host Kelly Ripa does sport a rose, heart and eave tattoo on her left ankle, something she called a "a symbol of my youthful stupidity," which she got at age 19.

But apparently she's not afraid to still be "stupid" -- in 2010 she displayed her latest tattoo, on her wrist: The word "Consuelos," after her husband of 13 years, Mark Consuelos.

Actress Brittany Daniel sports a Thai tattoo given to her by well-known tattoo artist Ajarn Nu, to create a "Yantra," which is considered a protective form of Thai tattoo. His technique, however, is not for the squeamish, and can be very painful to the subject.

Singer Anna Nalick sports two word-based tattoos on her back, "There is a blaze of light," a quote from songwriter Leonard Cohen, and "Fear not for the future, weep not for the past," a quote from poet Percy Bysshe Shelley.

Reality TV personality Audrina Partridge is no stranger to tattoos -- she features a heart dressed up like a berry on the back of her neck -- but she completely fooled everyone in 2009 when she wore an arm-length collection of Chinese characters that loosely translated into "the rice is fried in pork fat" for Ashton Kutcher's TV show "Pop Fiction."

But this one also remains a mystery; reports say it's in Farsi or Arabic and may be too messy to read.
