A wildfire swept into Funchal, killing three elderly people and injuring hundreds as it burned homes and forced people to flee in panic, authorities said Wednesday.

Five-year old white lion Ludwig, father of five newborn white lion cubs, is admired by a visitor at a private zoo in the village of Demydiv, Ukraine, on Aug. 11.
White lions, which are extremely rare, are a genetic mutation of the African Lion. They are mostly found in zoos because the color mutation makes it difficult for them to survive in the wild.

Simone Biles competes on the beam for Team USA during the gymnastics women's team final at the 2016 Summer Olympics in Rio de Janeiro on Aug. 9. The women's team won gold.




South Africa's Chad Le Clos and Michael Phelps of the U.S. compete in the final of the men's 200-meter butterfly at the Rio 2016 Olympics on Aug. 9. Phelps made up for one of the rare losses in his brilliant career by winning the event.
