Stricken cargo ship 'Modern Express' lies in the Atlantic Ocean off France, on Feb. 1, 2016. The distressed ship is being towed away from the French coast after a final salvage attempt on Monday. The 164-meter-long Modern Express, which was transporting 3,600 tonnes of wood along with construction machinery from Gabon to France, has been drifting towards the coast since its crew was evacuated by helicopter last week.

A boat carrying migrants to Greece hit rocks off the Turkish coast on Saturday and capsized, killing at least 33 people, including five children, officials and news reports said. Some 75 other migrants were rescued. A Turkish government official said he expects the death toll from the incident to rise as rescue workers try to reach other migrants believed trapped inside the wreckage of the boat which sank shortly after departing from the Aegean resort of Ayvacik.
