A suspicious device being investigated in Boston on Tuesday morning turned out to be a high-voltage fuse that may have fallen off of a utility truck, authorities said.

The state police sent its bomb squad unit to Kneeland Street near South Station and the Department of Transportation headquarters after a Massachusetts trooper first spotted the device. The bomb squad took steps to neutralize it, and determined it wasn’t an explosive.

The item wasn’t labeled, but an identical item was found in that same area that said it was a high-voltage fuse, according to the state Department of Fire Services.

“Everyone’s very sensitive today, checking everything out,” a federal official told NBC News.

The city is under heightened security Tuesday as officials commemorate the one-year anniversary of the Boston Marathon bombing.
