A grave marker for Diana Flomo. Pregnant women face a double risk from Ebola, dying from the virus or from lack of maternity care. Flomo died while giving birth prematurely, in Gbarnga, Liberia. Her baby daughter, also named Diana, died three days later.

Ebola has infected at least 13,000 people in West Africa, and killed at least 5,000. If the deadly virus isn't stopped, the CDC estimates that up to 1.4 million people could be infected by the end of January 2015.
