Kurdish leaders in Iraq are talking about breaking away from the country as a Sunni insurgency grows stronger, but Secretary of State John Kerry insists in an interview with NBC News: “A united Iraq is a stronger Iraq.”

Kerry was in Iraq for a second day Tuesday, trying to get sectarian factions to work together, form a new government and overcome the insurgents. Kerry told NBC’s Andrea Mitchell: “Our policy is to respect the territorial integrity of Iraq as a whole. It’s up to Iraqis to decide their future leadership. That’s not for the United States to determine.”
