The crew of a Chinese plane searching for the missing Malaysian jetliner spotted "suspicious objects" in the southern Indian Ocean off Australia on Monday, the state Xinhua news agency reported on its English website.

Searchers on the IL-76 saw two "relatively big floating objects" and "many white smaller ones," a Xinhua correspondent aboard the plane reported.

A Chinese icebreaker is on the way to the area, Xinhua reported, and the plane crew reported the sightings to the Australian command center.
